History

Mithing Pangarap Educational Foundation was founded in August 1988 as Binhing Pangarap Livelihood Foundation Inc. (BPLF) by Mrs. Woellhaf, the founder and directress of The Philippine Montessori Center (PMC). We built our first school building in Tondo, close to the former "Smokey Mountain" dumpsite. Smokey Mountain was chosen as project beneficiaries because this place represents how many Filipino people are living in poverty. Many people in this area, even small children, are working as scavengers. Twenty years ago there were only a few organisations operating here. Two times our school had to move due to flood problems, a third time because of governmental relocation. In 1995, the philippine government started to remove the dumpsite to build houses, but until today the ground is poisened and Tondo is one of the countries most depressed areas.

After focussing on Livelihood programs in our first seven years, we discovered that social development can only start from its very basics, so we started to develope our educational programs for students of all ages. In 2008, Mithing Pangarap moved to the newly built Gawad Kalinga school building in the area called Paradise Heights next to the Former Smokey Mountain where we use 3 class rooms located in the 2nd floor.
